Rubie Green Bedding - New & Eco Chic

I was sooo happy to find the debut collection of Rubie Green Bedding this week. This brand new collection of eco friendly, 300 thread-count organic cotton percale bedding and upholstery fabrics is fresh, modern and eco chic. There are 4 beautiful bedding collections so far, Classic White with an embroidered pinstripe, Tillinghast yellow diamond, Habibi b&w and my favorite East Village pink.

What I love most about this line by Michelle Adams is that they are classic, sophisticated and timeless while still being sustainable and conscientious. It is the perfect collection to demonstrate how being eco friendly does not have to sacrifice style or be quirky. Duvets with sea shell button details, shams and even bed skirts are all available.

And I love the upholstery fabrics as well. The above designs are also available in fabric. Each is made of 100% organic cotton, bleach free and printed with water based, non toxic inks with no volatile organic compounds (VOC's). Here are few of my favorites...welcoming and perfect for a shirred window treatment.

Michelle Obama Plants Garden at White House

Tomorrow, First Lady Michelle Obama, her daughters and 23 fifth graders from a local school will plant the 1st garden at the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden. However, this one will be an organic compost garden including 55 varieties of herbs, fruits & veggies.

It is very exciting news, just days after one of my favorite Chef's Alice Waters pleaded her wish on 60 minutes . While I have not had the opportunity to eat at her restaurant in Berkley, CA, I love her recipes and her passion for simple, seasonal, local ingredients. Her Chez Panisse foundation has initiated edible school gardens across the country and I am sure she is just thrilled.
And it has been just a month after Eat the View, a network of gardeners began their campaign to plant high-impact food gardens in high-profile places. They asked the Obamas to lead the way by replanting a Victory Garden on the First Lawn. There were 75,000 signatures.
Well, yes they can! The Obamas are continuing to bring change that will inspire their girl's at dinner and families across America to respect and enjoy natural, healthy fruits and vegetables and homemade foods from the USA.

Shabby Chic Stores Close - Eco Chic Tips

Yesterday Home Textiles Today and WWD announced that Rachel Ashwell will be closing and liquidating all of her Shabby Chic stores after having filed chapter 11 in January. Founder, Rachel Ashwell created the Shabby Chic lifestyle brand in 1989 and has since inspired many new brands, retailers, hand painted furniture, floral fabrics, garden designs, and new looks like beach chic & cottage chic.

Her Shabby Chic style embraces a relaxed, casual, European elegance that is family friendly, eclectic and yes, Eco chic too. Here are a few of my favorite, signature Shabby Chic tips that are also sustainable, great for the baby's room and timeless:

1. Discover the beauty of antiques, clean lines & finishes of reclaimed furniture.

2. Design is in the Details. Crystal chandeliers do not have to be reserved for formal dining rooms. Romanticize your daughter's room or powder room with a crystal chandelier.

3. Shop the Flea Markets for an eclectic table top. Mix and match vintage crystal and china based on your favorite colors or patterns.

4. Freshen up your bed with natural materials, crisp cottons, hand embroidered textiles.

5. Be inspired. Personalize your home with items that have a history and are beautiful.

Happy Birthday Barbie!

Today is Barbie's 50th Birthday - and she's getting ready to kick up her heals for this evening's B-day bash! I just loved my Barbie's dream house. But I have to say it was nothing like this pink party in Malibu, designed by one of my favorite design icons...Jonathan Adler. I know what you're thinking...all custom pieces will be donated to the Barbie Suite at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. How fun!!

Over the years, I considered collecting my favorite designer Barbies like DVF, Lilly Pulitzer and Ralph Lauren. And I think this Jonathan Adler Barbie available this Fall, may very well be my first.

P.S. What a wonderful collection to share with your little one

(don't forget to keep the boxes)
